At the start of the novel, the town has an event where all the ten-year-old children await to see if they will be sponsored by a patron.
Instead, Morrigan is equal parts sarcastic, silly, and caring. She refuses to let the negativity erase her character and disappear quietly into eventide. Despite these circumstances, Morrigan is a strong and independent child. You can imagine how bitter that would make a child after a while. Her family has made no attempt to shelter her or to show her affection. If that wasn’t terrible enough, Morrigan is told that she will die on her eleventh birthday during the eventide. Whenever unfortunate events occur, Morrigan is blamed and forced to write apology letter by her governor father. When I started listening to Nevermoor, however, I quickly realized that Morrigan Crow was very much her own character.
